[COMIC] Jazzy Adventures #001

That’s a temp name. I’m terrible at naming things!  And those of you who know me on Facebook have already seen this, but here’s my first comic strip.  Or 1-page short story.

This is a true story.  The events depicted in this comic took place in Brooklyn in 2014 (1 week ago).  At the request of the artist, there won’t be many people in each panel, because it’s hard to draw.    Out of respect for the dead, the rest has been told exactly as it occurred.

More to come :)  Probably in color, too.

Quick Sketch: Woman in Leather Armor

I purposefully wanted her to be on the androgynous side, but I think it’s a little TOO androgynous :P  Did a quick sketch in Photoshop while trying to figure out a leather armor outfit.  It’s not quite there yet.  But figured I should share the results so the world knows I’m not slacking off here!

Supergirl!

One of my three favorite female superheroes from the cartoon, Justice League Unlimited!! I love how Kara is not only smart but embraces her cute, girly side. I also admit that I like her superficially too, because she’s not a hyper sexual sex bomb like a lot of other women in mainstream superhero comics. She’s a teen and she still looks relatively innocent, if not a little bratty. I drew her in her JLU t-shirt outfit because, despite the impractical pencil skirt, the lack of spandex was refreshing. My favorite thing about her outfit is probably the short white gloves. If you’re In the US, I think JLU is still available on Netflix, but it’s expiring soon :( The guy who handled the show also did [everyone’s favorite] 1990’s Batman The Animated Series and Batman Beyond. There’s even a crossover ep in JLU with Terry from Batman Beyond :D So yea, if you’ve seen any of those then you already know JLU has good stories to tell! They take stale, cardboard superheroes and breath life in to them amazingly well.

Technically I did this Supergirl drawing back in July, but couldn’t bring myself to declare it “finished” till today.  I also tried coloring it several times and this is the best one I ended up with.  Which isn’t the best, but I think it’s still worth posting. The original black & white sketch is below, which I think actually looks better than the colored one above.

When I was little, I used to loooove rewatching the Supergirl movie….the old, crappy, campy one. Even back then I knew it was a terrible pile of crap, but I dunno. I guess I just have a huge girl crush on Supergirl :x. She still seemed like an intelligent yet girly woman, and I really liked that combination.

Aside from Kara, I really like Shayera (Hawkgirl) and Wonder Woman….who happens to have a really awesome animated movie (2009) for her origin story.  It’s got top quality animation, awesome fight scenes, and a offers a glimpse in to her life that you don’t get to see while she’s part of a bigger team in the Justice League series.  I’d like to draw them all….and do alternate costumes…for one, I’d love to put Wonder Woman in some proper armor.

….I could totally write up a review on some of the DC animated movies I been watching.  They’re really good.  Surprisingly so.

Oh — almost forgot to write this up too!  Let the records show that today was an awesome day! Not only did I finish up those drawings above, which always leaves me feeling fulfilled, I am now more awesome than all two men at work. Hahahaha.  We’ve been trying to install a certain work software on to the computers, but there’s been issues with the floating licenses, because floating licenses (even or ESPECIALLY legit ones) suck!  My boss, who ought to know what he’s doing with computer networks since he majored in it, and my boyfriend both couldn’t figure out how to make it work.  They were ready to give up on my machine, because they didn’t know what else to try.  After staring at some diagnostic files for a bit, I realized what the problem was….but then spent another 2 hours trying to figure out HOW to correct this.  I didn’t solve that.  But I did find a workaround that results in all the software working on all the computers!

So now I AM THE AWESOMEST AND ALL COMPUTER NETWORKS MUST BEND TO MY WILL!!!!!

I was previously known at the office for being The Girl Who Breaks Everything.  They even call me Hexadecimal sometimes, after the character in Reboot (an old TV show) who destroys everything…

Also of note, I’m the one who set up the wifi relay points in my boyfriend’s apartment too.  Success!

Day 26 – Something You Don’t Like – Fungal Grownth

Forgot to post this earlier in the week!

While my boyfriend was cooking dinner, I went to clean his room and be useful. There was a can of PBR on the dresser, a little weighty, estimated at half full. When I dumped it out in the bathroom sink, a trickle of beer came out….and a pale tentacle inverted itself from the can’s opening. I shook it, I prodded at it with another bottle…it wouldn’t come out. Was it a tissue, I wondered? No, that wouldn’t make sense. My boyfriend thought it was some kind of worm, to which I SCREAMED and hurled it at the trash, then ran away from it like it was gonna explode. In hindsight, it was probably a massive, heavy colony of fungus or mold, and the “tentacle” must’ve been its long roots.

I didn’t know what I was drawing when I started this, I was just throwing white on to a black layer. It turned out like this when I stopped, so I added the beer can. It got so late I acquired double vision.

30DDC: Day 12 – Recent Accomplishment – 2m/10:26 pace

Really kicking these out today, and yet I’m still so behind!  I mentioned in my Phoneography Post about how I went running after a very long hiatus.  It’s not just the distance of 2 miles outdoors that I’m proud of….although I AM proud, because that’s way harder than 2 miles on a treadmill.  I’m proud that my pace was at the 10:26 mark!!  When I first started running last year, my pace was an appalling 22min per mile.  That’s slower than walking speed!  But I built up my muscles and stamina, and pulled things down to 10-12min miles by the end of Fall 2012.  I’m so overly happy to see that I don’t have to start from 22 minute miles again!

30 Day Drawing Challenge – Day 04 – Favorite Place – Outdoor Hot Springs

Photoshop CS6 sketch, Yiynova MSP19U monitor tablet….and 1 hour.

It’s 2AM and I’m struggling to stay awake.  I wanted to write more thoughts about Fire Emblem that I’ve formed since the last post on it.  I wanted to write about the cool, new, Cintiq-like monitor-drawing tablet that came in the mail today.  Or the awesome Lindsey Stirling concert I went to with my friend, V, or the screening of Warm Bodies that I went to tonight with my sister.  But I got home at 11pm and I’m just too exhausted to write about it right now.  I don’t know when I’ll get a break from life; it seems like things have been so busy since December 2012.  It’s hard to do what I want, and it’s even harder to do what I need to do.

About today’s drawing….I had no idea what to draw.  In terms of word association, the phrase “favorite place” is something that sparks nothing to my mind and also way too many things.  I settled on outdoor hot springs, because that was my favorite thing in Japan and I still want to return and just visit tons of hotsprings for the whole trip. My favorite is sitting in a barrel…personal sized or huge sized….hot water wrapping your torso, cold air on your shoulders, cold water dripping down your hair and neck from the soaked towel on your head.  Something about this combination is just so relaxing, and I love the ledge that the barrel rim makes – it’s perfect for resting your head, away from the steam.

I miss going to these.
